Apple Pie Infused Whiskey is the must-make homemade infusion of the season. Using fresh apples and warming spices, the richness of the liquor is pure autumn in a glass. Plus, it makes for an incredible hostess gift for Thanksgiving!
about this apple pie infused whiskey
If you need to make one thing for Thanksgiving, it’s THIS.
Do you all know that one apple pie moonshine? I love the flavor of it, but man, that stuff goes straight to your head. Also, it is just a tinge too sweet for me to want to sip on it all night long.
Well, since I am such a whiskey girl, why not add that delicious apple pie flavor to my favorite spirit?
Of course, I did it. And it’s pure magic.
It’s the kind of magic that once you take a sip, you are transported to a rich velvet armchair with a glass of this whiskey in hand, lazily swirling it in front of a raging fire in a giant stone fireplace.
What? Is that not the image that springs to your mind automatically?
I know, it’s a little over-the-top, but seriously. This is the kind of spirit that will transport you to a world of happiness after the first sip.
From now on, I plan to make all the infused liquors for every season. It’s such an easy recipe to make and it can be used for all of your favorite cocktails to make them more seasonal and fresh.
If you are hosting Thanksgiving this year, this is a great infused liquor to make for your holiday bar cart that you’ll be setting out for cocktail hour.
If you are attending Thanksgiving at someone’s home this year, a bottle of this infused whiskey makes for a fantastic gift to the host/hostess with the most(est).
Who needs apple pie when you can get all those flavors in whiskey?
ingredients
apple – I used a gala apple for this recipe, but you can really use any apple depending on the flavor you like best! Honeycrisp, fuji, or even granny smith are great options here.
whole spices – you will need a cinnamon stick and whole cloves for this recipe.
whiskey – either rye whiskey or bourbon whiskey works great for this recipe! Use the spirit that you prefer.
honey – honey is the sweetener for this infused whiskey! You can also use agave if you so choose.
this recipe’s must-haves
The ultimate knife that everyone needs? A chef’s knife! It’s sharp, fierce, and oh-so handy.
To slice the apples with the greatest of ease, pair up this cutting board with the knife above.
I love to use mason jars for all the various infusions that I make. It’s big enough for one batch. It’s also big enough if you want to double or triple this particular recipe, so you can share.
If you want to serve it on the rocks, simply grab your favorite double old fashioned glasses and ice! I personally love this ice sphere mold because it gives you the perfect sphere of ice that melts slowly. Therefore the whiskey doesn’t get diluted as you sip on it!

here’s how to make apple pie infused whiskey
combine ingredients
Add ingredients for the infused whiskey to a large mason jar or other airtight container. The whiskey should cover all the ingredients.
infuse
Seal and store in a dark place for up to 2 weeks. I taste mine after a few days to check the flavor! Then check daily until it’s the flavor I prefer. I like to let mine infuse for about 7 to 9 days total.

tips for success
not a rye whiskey person? You can substitute bourbon or vodka for the whiskey if you prefer!
Cocktails to use this infused whiskey with: Spiced Apple Cider Moscow Mule | Apple Bourbon Smash | Last Minute Apple Pie Sparkling Sangria | Apple Pie Old Fashioned
what kind of apple should I use?
You can use any kind you like! I recommend using the type that you love the flavor of most – for me that’s either gala, fuji, or honeycrisp.
how long do I infuse the whiskey?
You can infuse the whiskey for up to 2 weeks! The amount of time you let the infusion sit depends on the flavor you like. I recommend checking it after a few days, then continuing to check it daily until it’s the flavor you like. For a more mild flavor, let it infuse for less than a week. For a very strong apple flavor, let it infuse the full 2 weeks.
If you love all things apple, this apple orchard cocktail is a lovely choice for anyone who enjoys a vodka drink.

hi i would love to make this, but what type of apple would you reccomend to make this? i would assume either gala or honeycrisp but i may be wrong
Meghan Y. says
I would recommend either Gala or Honeycrisp for sure! You can also use Red Delicious.
Travis says
Do you refrigerate for two weeks or just in the pantry is fine? Once done do you need to refrigerate or leave with the rest of the alcohol? Will it go bad?
Meghan Y. says
In the pantry is just fine! You can leave it with the rest of the alcohol, just make sure you strain out the fruit. It lasts two weeks! After that the flavors start to change.
Becky says
Would the apples still be good to be used in a cake? I want to use bourbon infused apples in a cake
Meghan Y. says
I think they would be great in cake! I would recommend avoiding using them in pies though because they will be too saturated 🙂
TCS says
What is the best way to drink this>
e.g. Have it with lemonade, on the rocks or anything else
what cocktail recipes would you recommend for it as well
Thanks in Advance
Meghan Y. says
You can drink it on the rocks or neat if you like! You can also use it in place of any whiskey for an apple twist – an old fashioned, manhattan, in lemonade, etc. Enjoy!
Dave says
Thank you for the recipe! What brand of whiskey did you use?
Meghan Y. says
I love to use Bulleit! If I’m using bourbon, I reach for Evan Williams. 🙂
JASON says
So when you say the flavor starts to change how does it change?
Meghan Y. says
The flavor of the whiskey itself will change over time! So the whiskey will soak up the flavor of the spices and apples, giving it that apple pie flavor. You can taste it as time passes to determine just how infused you want your whiskey! Some people like the apple pie flavor to be really intense, while others like it to be more faint so the whiskey is still pretty prominent.
Brandon says
Are you using aged or white whiskey
Meghan Y. says
Aged whiskey!
Karen says
Would it be possible to can the final product to make it shelf-stable longer?
Meghan Y. says
Unfortunately I am not familiar with canning so I don’t know about that. I would think that after the liquor is infused, you could strain it and can it! Sorry I can’t be more helpful!
