about this bang bang shrimp sauce
Hey there, food lovers! If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably had that one bang bang shrimp restaurant dish that’s so insanely delicious, you wish you could recreate it at home.
I first had this recipe back in the early 2000s when I was all about hitting happy for the best deal possible whenever I went out. Since that time, that bang bang shrimp sauce is now a staple at many more recipes than Bonefish Grill. There’s bang bang chicken, bang bang poke bowls, and more nowadays, reminding me even more about how much I love the sauce.
Well friends, I have cracked the code and you don’t have to go out to a restaurant to enjoy this sauce. With a few simple ingredients, you can whip up your own bang bang sauce right at home. And trust me, it’s going to be a total game-changer for your next dinner party, meal prep, or family gathering.
Our bang bang shrimp sauce recipe is all about simplicity. You probably already have most of the ingredients in your fridge or pantry, and the steps are so easy. The creamy texture of the sauce makes it a favorite condiment of ours.
Sure, it’s incredible on shrimp (obviously), but it’s also great as a dipping sauce for fries, a spread for sandwiches, toss with your favorite protein, or even a dressing for a spicy slaw. Basically, if you can dip it, drizzle it, or spread it, this bang bang sauce is your new BFF.
ingredients
mayonnaise. We like to use light mayonnaise to lighten the sauce up a bit, but you can also use full fat mayo. If you want to try to make it even healthier, use plain Greek yogurt instead.
chili sauce. You can easily find Thai Sweet Chili Sauce at your local grocery store or Asian food store. We usually get ours at Trader Joe’s.
Sriracha. This is what brings the most heat to the sauce. You can use Sriracha sauce or even a flavored Sriracha if you want to mix things up.
honey. Used to slightly sweeten the sauce! You can also use maple syrup or agave.
scallions. Also known as green onion, this aromatic adds a ton of flavor to the sauce. We love the added flavor it brings, but you can omit it if you prefer. Another option is to save the green onion for garnish on top of whatever dish you are making!
