about these candy apple slices
I love a good old-fashioned candy apple, but they are kind of touch to eat and super tricky to make. If I can find a hack to make my life easier, you can bet I am reaching for it.
That’s why these game-changing candy apple slices are a must-make for fall.

It’s also a killer recipe to get the kids involved with! There’s not fancy cooking technique – just the help of your microwave, a couple of bowls, and a couple of spoons. It’s almost too easy to be true.
You can even turn this into a make-your-own candy apple slice party at your next fall gathering for a fun group activity to get everyone in the kitchen! Alternatively, add it to a halloween dessert charcuterie board for a festive celebration.
ingredients
apples. Tart green apples give you the best flavor to pair with the sweet toppings! You can also use a sweet apple like a fuji apple.
soft caramels. Soft caramels melt a lot easier, so those are the type we recommend.
chocolate chips. Use your favorite chocolate chips! We like to use milk chocolate chips or semi sweet chocolate chips.
coconut oil. This is optional, but I find that it makes the melted chocolate much easier to work with.
toppings. Small candies, chocolates, toffee bits, caramel bits, sprinkles, shredded coconut, chopped nuts (pecans, peanuts, etc), crushed cookies, flaky sea salt, and more. Use your favorites!

here’s how to make candy apple slices
dry off the apples
To help the caramel stick to the apples, be sure to dry both sides of the apple slices with paper towel. You want the apple slices to not have any moisture on them.
Make a small slit in the bottom of each slice and insert a popsicle stick into each. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
melt caramels
Add the caramels to a microwave-safe bowl and melt in 30 second increments in the microwave, stirring after each until the caramel is smooth, melted, and runny.
Spoon a dollop of caramel sauce onto each slice, spreading it to cover the slices. Let sit for about 5 minutes to harden.
melt chocolate
Add chocolate chips to a microwave-safe bowl. Melt in 30 second increments in the microwave, stirring in between each, until smooth and melted. Stir in coconut oil to help make the chocolate runny and shiny.
Drizzle the chocolate on top of the apple slices.
top and chill
Sprinkle with your desired toppings while the chocolate is still melted. Place in the refrigerator to chill until the chocolate is set. Serve.
